Mead is the oldest alcoholic drink known to man. It is produced by combining honey with water and then fermenting those ingredients with or without added yeast. Fermented honey used to produce mead can be previously cooked (brewed) or uncooked (raw). Mead is also referred to as a natural honey water solution.

Depending on the volume ratio of honey to water in solution, we distinguish the following types of mead:

- półtorak - 1 part honey to 0.5 part water

- dwójniak - 1 part honey to 1 part water

- trójniak - 1 part honey to 2 parts water

The fermentation process can be more or less turbulent; the maturation time of mead depends on their type.
